Last month our family had the enjoyable opportunity to make the trip down to Orange Beach, Alabama for a 3rd time with my wonderful in-laws. Our first trip down included Aaron's older brother and his family plus my oldest niece(Knox side). Trip number 2 included the entire Caughern clan...all 17 of us. However, this go-round was a little shy on people. With everything going on in the world(pandemic) Older Brother and family decided it would be best if they stayed home due to underlying health concerns. Younger Brother and his family aren't fans of the beach and had stated they wouldn't be going back after the last trip. So, just us and the grandparents. Because we had already made other trips down to the same location, we felt no need to book activities or do any running around. We had a house right on the beach that came with a pool and plenty of space to practice social distancing. Unlike the previous time, this drive was done in one day. One very long day. But we eliminated an overnight in a hotel and were very smart about our stops. We took enough groceries to get us through the first 2 days once we arrived. This was the quietest, most relaxing week. We didn't do much aside from paying on the beach and swimming in the pool. A couple of days were 'purple flag' days. A purple flag means dangerous marine life has been spotted. In this case, that meant jellyfish.
3 jellies, 2 different species
Evan found SO many. he and Katie walked the shore for about an hour on evening and found about 30 that had washed up, still alive. Aaron and Ethan played chess every day, just like they do at home.
Of course, the view was way better here.

Me and my mom-in-law
My fabulous offspring!
Ethan had so much fun putting his 3 kites in the air every day. He would anchor them to the ice chest or a chair and then let the fly until we broke camp down in the evening. We had a marvelous time!
A couple of kids got buried
Katie's giant turtle friend provided tons of fun with the waves
a side note on the fuzzy family picture..it was taken much later in the day and I didn't have my flash on.
